A new 'First Man' featurette celebrates Neil Armstrong

With “First Man” headed to theaters next month, Universal Pictures has brought online a featurette that explores the real Apollo XI mission. Check it out in the player above. There’s also an accompanying Augmented Reality experience that can be viewed on your phone by visiting moon.firstman.com.

Following their six-time Academy Award winning hit, “La La Land,” director Damien Chazelle and leading man Ryan Gosling reteam for the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. Based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost — on both Armstrong and on the nation — of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

In addition to Gosling in the Armstrong role, “First Man” stars Jason Clarke, Claire Foy, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Ciaran Hinds, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit and Lukas Haas.

Written by Academy Award winner Josh Singer (“Spotlight”), “First Man” is produced by Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (“The Twilight Saga,” “The Fault in Our Stars”) through their Temple Hill Entertainment banner, alongside Chazelle. Steven Spielberg, Isaac Klausner, Adam Merims and Singer all serve as executive producers.

“First Man” opens in theaters, including IMAX screens, beginning October 12, 2018.
