Disney+ adds 'Frozen 2' three months early
If there’s any fictional character that knows how it feels to be isolated, it’s quite arguably Queen Elsa. It’s very appropriate, then, that Disney has now announced a special surprise for a world dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic. The number one animated movie of all time, Frozen 2, was originally planned to debut on the streaming service Disney+ three months from now. Instead, it will debut this Sunday, March 15.
“‘Frozen 2’ has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are incredibly relevant during this time, and we are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device,” says Bob Chapek, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company.
Internationally, Frozen 2 will be available on Disney+ in Canada, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand on Tuesday, March 17. In the U.S., the film will initially be available in high definition, with Ultra HD video playback available to all subscribers on Tuesday, March 17.
Featuring Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad reprising their respective roles, Frozen II is helmed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the directors behind the original. Lee again provides the screenplay from a story that she developed with Buck and Shane Morris.
