It's official! Keanu Reeves will return for a fourth 'Matrix' movie

It has been 20 years since the Wachowski’s epochal The Matrix hit the big screen and nearly 16 years since the original trilogy wrapped up with The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2003. Now, Variety confirms what has been long rumored: a fourth Matrix film is on the way! What’s more, the trade confirms that the new chapter will see the return of director Lana Wachowski and stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Lana Wachowski tells the trade. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

The script for the new film — details of which are being kept under wraps — is also written by Lana Wachowski alongside Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski is also attached to produce alongside Grant Hill with production slated to begin as early as next year. Check back for updates on this highly anticipated sequel as they become available.
