Banks is also writing the new film alongside Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, and will play a supporting role in the 2019 release. The film’s main crime fighting trio will be played by Ella Balinska, Naomi Scott and Kristen Stewart.
Based on the ABC series that premiered in 1976, “Charlie’s Angels” follows a group of three women who work together as a trio of crime fighting detectives. They take their assignments from a mysterious boss, Charlie Townsend, who only ever appeared on the show as a voice. Over the course of five seasons and 115 episodes, six different Angels were showcased, played by Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts.
In 2000, “Charlie’s Angels” was rebooted for the big screen. Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu headlined both a first film and a 2003 sequel, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” both directed by McG. More recently, the franchise returned to the small screen for a single season in 2011. That short lived iteration set Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor as the leads.
Look for the new “Charlie’s Angels” to hit the big screen September 27, 2019.
