Trip a little light fantastic with 'Mary Poppins Returns'

Now playing in theaters everywhere, “Mary Poppins Returns” is capturing the hearts and minds of children of all ages. Today, Walt Disney Pictures has released both a new clip and a behind the scenes featurette, both of which you can check out in the players below! The top player offers a look at one of the film’s key musical sequences, set to the original song “Trip a Little Light Fantastic”. Just below that, the featurette explores what went into making the scene a reality.

Arriving more than half a century after the iconic original, “Mary Poppins Returns” has Blunt taking over the role made famous by Julie Andrews: the practically perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure.

The “Mary Poppins Returns” cast also includesLin-Manuel Miranda and Jack, Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks, Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks, Meryl Streep as Topsy, Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherill Wilkins, and Julie Walters as the Bankses’ housekeeper, Ellen. The film also introduces three new Banks children played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and newcomer Joel Dawson. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the P.L. Travers books, and Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes Jr., the retired chairman of the bank now run by Firth’s character.

“Mary Poppins Returns” is directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by David Magee and screen story by Magee & Marshall & John DeLuca based upon The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers. The producers are Marshall, DeLuca and Marc Platt with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer and the music is by Marc Shaiman with songs by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
