The 'Mary Poppins Returns' cast assembles on new character posters
In a little over a month, Walt Disney Pictures is bringing Mary Poppins back to the big screen. The new film, “Mary Poppins Returns,” stars Emily Blunt as the iconic caretaker. Today, the studio has released a series of new character posters. In addition to Blunt’s Poppins, there are designs showcasing Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, Meryl Streep as Topsy, Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherill Wilkins and Julie Walters as the Bankses’ housekeeper, Ellen.
Arriving more than half a century after the iconic original, “Mary Poppins Returns” has Blunt taking over the role made famous by Julie Andrews: the practically perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure.
The “Mary Poppins Returns” cast also includes Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks and Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks. The film also introduces three new Banks children played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and newcomer Joel Dawson. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the P.L. Travers books, and Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes Jr., the retired chairman of the bank now run by Firth’s character.
“Mary Poppins Returns” is directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by David Magee and screen story by Magee & Marshall & John DeLuca based upon The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers. The producers are Marshall, DeLuca and Marc Platt with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer and the music is by Marc Shaiman with songs by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
“Mary Poppins Returns” opens in theaters everywhere December 19, 2018.
