Watch the opening scene from 'X-Men' spinoff, 'The New Mutants'
Although Comic-Con International is, unfortunately, missing it’s annual San Diego event this year, the spirit of the convention lives on virtually. Today, 20th Century Studios hosted a special online panel that, in addition to featuring stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga, writer and director Josh Boone, and graphic artist Bill Sienkiewicz, also offered a look the film’s opening sequence. Check out the full 30-minute video in the player below!
Also revealed during the panel was a series of new posters for the film. One of them (featuring the Demon Bear) hails Sienkiewicz himself while the other five are said to be “fan-inspired”. Check out all six in the gallery viewer below!
The New Mutants offers an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
Boone directs from a screenplay he wrote with Knate Lee, adapting Chris Claremont’s original comic book storyline. The film version sets Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair (aka Wolfsbane), Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin (aka Magik), Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie (aka Cannonball), Blu Hunt as Dani Moonstar (aka Mirage), Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa (aka Sunspot), and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
The New Mutants is produced by Simon Kinberg, p.g.a., Karen Rosenfelt, p.g.a. and Lauren Shuler Donner with Stan Lee and Michele Imperato Stabile serving as executive producers.
Currently, The New Mutants does not have an official theatrical release date, but check back for an opening day announcement as soon as it becomes available.
