Production wraps on Disney's 'Maleficent II'

Nearly three months to the day after production was officially announced, filming has wrapped on Walt Disney Pictures’ “Maleficent II”. Director Joachim Rønning (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” “Kon-Tiki”) shared the following photo on his Instagram account, celebrating the men and women who have helped make the fairy tale sequel a reality.

A followup to the original “Maleficent” (which grossed more than $750 million at the global box office), “Maleficent II” picks up several years after the first film and continues to explore the complex relationship between Angelina Jolie’s horned fairy and Elle Fanning’s soon-to-be Queen Aurora, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.

“Maleficent II” also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay, Harris Dickinson, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.

“Maleficent II” is written by Linda Woolverton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster (“Transparent”). Producers include Joe Roth (“Alice through the Looking Glass,” “Oz the Great and Powerful,” “Maleficent”) and Angelina Jolie.

Walt Disney Pictures has officially started production on Maleficent II.
