Lionsgate delays ‘Spiral: From the Book of Saw’
Not entirely a surprise given theater closures around the world, Lionsgate has confirmed that the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw has been removed from the studio’s upcoming release schedule. It was originally planned to debut on May 15. Likewise, the studio has additionally pulled Antebellum (scheduled for April 24) and Run (scheduled for May 8). All three films will remain undated for the time being. Lionsgate will announce next steps, dates, and strategies for bringing these films to the public once there is more clarity on when theaters will be able to safely and fully resume operations.
Details on all three releases follow:
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Spiral is produced by longtime franchise filmmakers Mark Burg and Oren Koules – who are back once again to shepherd this re-imagining, which is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed three of the most successful films in the Saw franchise to date. The film itself was developed based on Chris Rock’s love of the franchise and features a script written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The film will be executive produced by Rock, long-time Saw executive producer Daniel Heffner and the original creators of Saw, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
Successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late. Antebellum offers a terrifying new thriller from the producer of the acclaimed films Get Out and Us.
Also starring Marque Richardson II, Eric Lange , Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone, Antebellum is also produced by Bush and Renz alongside Raymond Mansfield, Sean McKittrick, Zev Foreman and Lezlie Wills.
They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp. From the visionary writers, producers and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to Run.
