'The Batman' moves to 2022
In the wake of No Time to Die‘s move to a theatrical release next April, Warner Bros. Pictures has also announced an updated film schedule. First reported by Collider, Dune is moving from this December to October 1, 2021. That’s a release date that was originally set for the now-filming The Batman, which has subsequently been pushed to March 4, 2022.
The new release date for The Batman pushes forward some other DC Comics movies. The Flash shifts from June 3, 2022 to November 4, 2022 and Shazam! 2 moves from November 4, 2022 to June 2, 2023. Consequently, Black Adam, while still on the way, is temporarily without a release date.
Fortunately, there is one upcoming tentpole that is moving in the other direction! The fourth Matrix film, originally dated for April 1, 2022, is now scheduled to hit theaters next year, on December 22nd.
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Gotham City’s vigilante detective, Batman, who, by day, is secretly billionaire Bruce Wayne. Starring alongside Pattinson are Zoë Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Selina Kyle, Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years a Slave) as Edward Nashton, Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games, Westworld) as the GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard (The Magnificent Seven, Black Mass) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as mayoral candidate Bella Reál, Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Black Panther) as Alfred, and Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Dumbo) as Oswald Cobblepot.
