The 'Tolkien' trailer sets Nicholas Hoult as the legendary author

Before he became the author of iconic works like “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” J.R.R. Tolkien was many things, including a student, a husband and a soldier. Now, from Fox Searchlight Pictures, the early years of Tolkien are being explored in a biopic that sets Nicholas Hoult as the author and Lily James as his wife to be, Edith. A trailer for the upcoming “Tolkien” has just debuted online and you can check it out right here:

“Tolkien” explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

Also starring Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi, “Tolkien” is directed by Dome Karukoski from a screenplay by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford. Producers include Peter Chernin p.g.a., Jenno Topping p.g.a., David Ready p.g.a. and Kris Thykier p.g.a.

Look for “Tolkien” in theaters beginning May 10.
