See 'Alita: Battle Angel' for free this Thursday!

Twentieth Century Fox has a surprise for moviegoers today with the announcement of free “Alita: Battle Angel” screenings across the country this Thursday, January 31st at 7:00pm. The screenings will take place in Dolby Cinema in 3D at AMC, IMAX 3D and other select 3D premium large format theaters. In addition to the film, fans at selected theaters will get to see a conversation with the filmmakers and cast, including James Cameron, Jon Landau, director Robert Rodriguez and cast members Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, and Keean Johnson and a special inside look at the making of the film.

“People may have heard of Alita, but don’t know who she is,” says Cameron. “Why is she called the Battle Angel? What is her world like? Well, I think you’ve simply got to see it to believe it. And the best way to see it is in a cinema, and in gorgeous 3D, the way Robert Rodriguez shot it. So we’ve decided to do some special free screenings, for fans around the country, to introduce our Alita to the world. When you see how big a heart she has, and what she stands for, and how she kicks major butt — you’re going to fall in love with her, the way I did.”

Fans can RSVP to the free screenings via ExperienceAlita.com and submit questions for the filmmakers and cast on James Cameron’s newly launched official Instagram, @JamesCameronOfficial and Facebook  pages in the comments section using the hashtag #ExperienceAlita.

Set several centuries in the future, “Alita: Battle Angel” begins when Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first. As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo, offers instead to help trigger her memories.

A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love. Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.

A 20th Century Fox release, “Alita” also stars Mahershala Ali as Vector, Ed Skrein as Zapan and Keean Johnson as Hugo. Look for it on the big screen February 14, 2019.
